About CanMailCleaner

CanMailCleaner is an independent desktop email application being developed by Can Ürek for personal use.

Its goal is to provide a familiar mailbox experience with local search, filtering and sender grouping, followed by user-reviewed tools for organizing email.

The application uses Electron. macOS is the first development target, with Windows and Linux planned.

Current development status

CanMailCleaner is a private development project. It is not currently available for public download.

Development prototypes include a mailbox interface, message selection, search, date filtering and sender grouping. Yahoo is the first planned live email provider.

Yahoo OAuth account connection is not yet implemented. Registering the developer application does not itself enable mailbox access; that integration requires further implementation and the appropriate provider permissions.

Initial Yahoo integration

The initial Yahoo integration is limited to a small, read-only pilot using the developer's own account:

  • Reads are manually initiated and require an explicit preview and confirmation.
  • Each read is limited to the From, Subject and Date headers of up to five INBOX messages.
  • Retrieved headers are processed locally and held in application memory.
  • The pilot does not read message bodies or attachments.
  • It does not send email, move messages, delete messages or otherwise modify the mailbox.
  • Yahoo mailbox data is not sent to an AI service as part of this pilot.

Planned account connection

The intended experience is to choose Yahoo, sign in and grant permission on Yahoo's own page, then return to CanMailCleaner.

The planned desktop integration uses Authorization Code with PKCE. It is intended to avoid collecting the user's normal Yahoo account password.

Future direction

Future work includes broader mailbox functionality and user-reviewed organization tools.

Optional AI assistance is a longer-term goal. It is not enabled for Yahoo mailbox data in the current pilot. Any future third-party processing will require a review of applicable provider policies and updated disclosures before it is enabled.
